O’Loughlins Handball Club

Founded in 1979, O’Loughlins Handball Club has been one of the most successful and innovative clubs in Ireland. While the club boasts a massive Lounge and Bar Complex, Gymnasium, Basketball Court, Three Hurling Pitches, Two 40 x 20 Handball Courts with magnificent ancillary facilities including a Sauna, the most important aspect is that members of the club have won numerous County, Leinster and All Ireland medals from Under 12 to Diamond Masters.

Billy Bourke won 2 Senior Hardball Medals for the club while players from O’Loughlins comprised the major portion of winning National League Teams on four occasions.

Eddie Leahy is the clubs most successful player with a tally of 21 All Ireland Medals. Opposite is Eddie Leahy receiving his 21st. All Ireland Medal from Con Moore, President IHC. Also in picture is Michael Naughton of Roscommon.

O’Loughlins were the Club Championship experts winning a total of 10 All Irelands at this level.

The clubs most promising player is Timmy Clifford who has won 3 Juvenile All Ireland Medals and represented Ireland in the USHA Championships in California winning the 17 and Under Title.

Nicky Reilly won a World Championship for O’Loughlins in 1994.

In 1998 a second 40 x 20 ‘state of the art’ court with a massive balcony and ultra modern dressing facilities and Sauna was added to the expanding GAA Club and with the Hurlers going well in the Senior Championships, the club has a very bright future.

The new court was officially opened by Irish Handball President, Con Moore in February 1999 when Michael Ducksie Walsh played DJ Carey in an exhibition game to mark the occasion. Juvenile Boys and Girls also played exhibition games before a packed gallery on this very special occasion for the club.
