Ducksie Walsh's Achievements


'Ducksie' as he is known nationally and internationally started playing handball under the watchful eye of coach, Tommy O'Brien at Talbots Inch in Kilkenny in 1976 and won his first National Title, Under 12 Doubles partnered by Joe Walsh of Mullinavat in 1977. This was the start of an illustrious career which saw the Talbots Inch handball genius amass a total of 61 All Ireland Championships and is the most decorated player in the game having won Irish Player of the Year on numerous occasions.




The Talbot's Inch player's achievements in handball are legendary in Ireland where he holds 36 Senior All Ireland Medals. The great John Joe Gilmartin won 24 All Ireland titles, a record which stood for over 40 years until Duxie came along to shatter all previous records. Paddy Perry of Roscommon had won 8 Senior Softball Singles titles in a row, Duxie won 13 in a row before losing to Walter O'Connor of Meath in 1998. However he regained this title in style in 1999 from O'Connor.

Duxie and Eugene Downey won a record 10 Senior Softball Doubles All Ireland Titles but in 40 x 20, he won two with Michael Reade and three with D.J. Carey.

Ducksie is married to Sheena and they reside in Bennettsbridge, Co. Kilkenny. They have two children, Dillon and Megan. If you want a New Kitchen, Ducksie is your man as he runs a thriving business in Bennettsbridge.
