If you operate or know of a useful Website or contact that is not listed
here or on the Hints and Tips page, please
E-mail the Webmaster. I would like to build
up a world-wide database, and I am particularly interested in:-
Webmaster's Comments: Masnedø have a very comprehensive Website,
complete with an on-site Search Engine. The downside is that the Website
is not very browser friendly - you need Internet Explorer 5 or later to access
the site completely. When searching for Vire parts on their Website,
don't use the quick-search facility. That search will only
find items that have the search word in the item title. For example, searching
for "Vire" that way will only get you five hits. To find Vire parts, go to
the "Search" page and select "Vire" from the drop-down list of manufacturers.
That will get you over 40 hits.
Webmaster's Comment, 19 October 2002: Don't be discouraged that the address
and telephone number are now occupied by a firm of architects. Charles McGlurcan
is an architect, Vire user and provider of all spares and reconditioned engines.
(Thanks to DJ in Sydney for this reassuring information)
Webmaster's Note, 17 February 2005: Crinan Marine is no longer trading.
The marine engine element of the business has been taken over by
CrinMar.

11 July 2002 - J-FG found Crinan through the website. He writes
"I bought parts for my VIRE 7 at Crinan Marine in Ontario Canada. They ARE
Great people, kind and helpful. Preben is one of the living Gurus of the
VIRE 7 and he enjoys sharing information.
27 February 2002 - JK writes "I wanted to drop a note to let
you know the status of my Vire 7.
In mid January, I ordered a new Short Block from Crinan Marine in Kingston
Ontario. It arrived here to Northern California in early February. The block
is basically a new engine on the inside. I reused my old exhaust box, sater
plate, carburetor and flywheel. It was an easy process and now I have a new
engine that is ready to go another 28 years.
I highly recommend Crinan Marine, who I located using information from your
website, Dave and Praven are really great people to work with and are always
willing help.
The total spent on block was $1655 American and $138 on shipping. This is
less than half of what a new Vire 7 would have cost.
May 2001 - JMcK, Ontario, needed new transmission seals. He was
told by a dealer in Massachusetts that delivery would take 6 to 8 weeks.
So, he writes, "I called Crinan Marine in Kingston, Ontario. They had the
seals in stock and wanted my VISA number so they could ship the same day.
Anyone looking for parts in NA should try Crinan's first."
Webmaster's Comments: According to David Perry at Crinan Marine
the company "carries an extensive stock of parts for the Vire 7, along with
all the special tooling for rebuild and recondition work. We not only supply
parts but also sell both new engines and a short motor kit which includes
the cylinder, crankcase, crank, piston and complete gearbox assembly. We
then overhaul the exhaust box, dynastarter and ignition system, rebuild the
carburetor and the customer has a literally new engine for considerably less
cost. We have sold new Vires, several short motors and rebuilt a couple of
units this winter."
Please note that Preben Jacobsen, mentioned by several correspondents, no
longer works for Crinan.
Webmaster's Note, 17 February 2005 - CrinMar is a relatively new
company that incorporates the marine engine business of Crinan Marine, which
has now ceased to trade. Click here for more details.
7 June 2001 - From Pete, England - "MMC are very cheap for spares - and
deliver very quickly e.g. New crankshaft ordered on a Monday and received
in England on a Wednesday."
Webmasters Comments: Masnedø, the last manufacturers of the Vire
7, have a very comprehensive Website, complete with an on-site Search Engine.
The downside is that the Website is not very browser friendly - you need
Internet Explorer 5 or later to access the site completely. Search under
"Vire" from the drop-down menu of manufacturers to see lists and pictures
of many of the more commonly-used parts. They no longer have any complete
engines for sale.

Webmaster's Comment: Official Vire Agent in Finland.
18th July 2005 - According to a reliable source in Finland, Mr Pajari
is now semi-retired, but retains an interest in Vire engines. He speaks English
and is happy to receive enquiries or orders for spare parts either by voice
or by text message. Orders can also be posted to his home address (at
Martinsillantie 6), which he prefers to the older business address. My contact
also says that you can send payments to him by post and that he can be trusted
to post spares to anywhere in the world.

Webmaster's Comments: Alex, who told me about this contact, describes
it as a "semi-professional provider of used Vire 7 engines and parts in Germany,
who gave some helpful advice about Vire 7 engine to me"
Webmaster's Comments: Official Vire Agent in Sweden.
I don't speak Swedish, but somebody else offered the following information:-
"Säljer Wire, den finska lilla tvåtaktsmotorn".
This translates as "Sells Vire, the little Finnish 2-stroke engine" (Thanks
to DR in Sweden for the translation)
26 July 2001 - DR (Sweden), who had a problem with leaking sacrificial
anodes, described KA as "really helpful". They advised him that he could
effect a temporary repair with "Plastic Paddiing", until he could get around
to replacing the bungs.
6 November 2005 - Webmaster's Comments: Recently appointed as Official
Vire Agents in the UK. Contact Nick LeFeuvre, who writes "I service/repair
Vire 6s and 7s around the South of England when asked. Last year I unseized
and rebuilt a BVR for £300 for someone who rang me from Bristol, and
I recently travelled to Gosport to service an unreliable BVR in situ; both
customers were pleased to get an expert."
Webmaster's Comments: Cellar describe themselves as "Marine engineers,
specialising in:- Yanmar, Stuart Turner and Vire engines; Yanmar and Mase
generators, installation equipment and spares; stern tubes, bearings, propellors,
shafts, controls, etc."
9 April 2004 - PLD, a Canadian visitor looking for parts for a Vire BVR,
paid a personal visit to Cellar. According to his report, their mechanic
has "been there for ever" and has "rebuilt or repaired all manner of Vire
engines", including BVRs, about which he seemed to know a lot. PLD described
Cellar as "extremely helpful" and said that he "would highly recommend them".
Webmaster's Comments: Official Vire Agent in USA. In answer to my e-mail
to Hansen Marine, Millie Martin replied "Yes, we do carry parts for the Vire
7. We also service them. We are a distributor for Westerbeke Corporation.
We also carry parts for Honda generators, Volvo engines, Peninsular engines
and also deal in Aquadrive units. "
12 June 2001 - RC, New York writes "For what it's worth, I ordered a couple
of impellers and water pump gaskets from Hansen Marine in Marblehead,
Massachusetts earlier this spring. They appeared to have a computerized inventory
system, could reference the Vire part numbers I gave them from the owners
manual, took my credit card number over the phone, and I received the parts
within about 4 days via surface mail. I think they also FedEx for an extra
charge. The parts were obscenely expensive (~$40 per impeller, $10 per paper
gasket), but they had them, and they got them to me fast. "
