Sally Webster is now one of the longest residents in Coronation Street. Like Gail Platt the show has allowed her to develop from a naive teenager to a mother figure. While most of her years were pretty ordinary things have livened up from 1997 onwards. Read on to find out more about Sally Webster.

Sally Seddon married young mechanic Kevin Webster in October 1986. Sally endured a terrible childhood. She suffered physical abuse from her father. She had grown up in fear. Her father Eddie Seddon pushed her into applying for a dole cheque which he used for himself.. Sally was very upset about the fact that her father didn't turn up at the wedding because he did not want to pay for it.

They lodged with Hilda Ogden at No.13 Coronation Street until Sally got a job at Alf Robert's Corner Shop and was given the flat above aswell. She enjoyed many happy years with Kevin who unlike her father was reliable. However Sally was quick to show Kevin that she was no doormat. When Kevin took up driving old bangers Sally wanted to join in. Kevin didn't let her at first thinking that it was too dangerous for girls but in the end he allowed her to race in the time trials. Kevin thought that he could easily beat Sally. When Sally beat him he wasn't impressed and refused to allow her near the banger. But that didn't put off Sally. She sneaked a car into a race but it turned over and she broke her ankle and that was the end of that.

Sally gave birth to Rosie on Christmas Eve 1990. At the time Kevin was out on a job so Sally was taken to hospital with Liz McDonald and Don Brennan's taxi. Her waters broke on Rosamund Street and Liz delivered her. Rosie was called after the name of the street she was born on.

Sally soon gave up working at the Corner Shop and became a registered child minder, minding Gail's David and Jonathan, son of tax inspector Joe Broughton whose wife had recently left him. Sally felt sorry for Joe and helped to calm Jonathan down. Joe was grateful and shared his holiday cottage at the Lakes with the Websters. Sally soon learned about Joe's true intentions when when he declared his love for her and urged her to break free from a marriage which he thought would leave Sally as nothing better but a drab housewife.

Sally soon found herself getting fed up with life at No. 13 Coronation Street. The kids tired her out, Kevin worked long hours and she began to think that Joe might have been right. She stopped minding Jonathan, told Kev about Joe and never saw him again after Kev thumped him.

Sally's second daughter Sophie was born in 1994 and Sally felt happy once again. Rita Sullivan helped them out by giving them a cheque of £5,000. Sally's relationship with Kevin was troubled by money matters and her post natal depression. They enjoed a happy spell when Kevin went into partnership with Tony Horrocks and bought MVB motors in 1997. Celebrations were short lived when Tony knocked down Jusy Mallett's mother Joyce Smedley. He left the garage and handed over his share of the business to his mother Natalie Horrocks.

At the same time Sally's mother suffered a stroke and Sally was forced to rush to Scarborough to help her mother regain full health. She stayed by her mother's bedside for three months. Kevin occasionly visited her at the weekends. When she returned she was delighted to be back with her husband and children. However little did she know that Kevin had been seduced by Natalie and the pair had enjoyed passionate evenings in Sally's bed. When Sally eventually discovered the truth she went ballistic, slapping Natalie outside the Corner Shop and throwing Kevin out. Kevin went to live with Natalie.

Sally made huge demands of Kevin to help her survive with the kids, which caused frequent rows between Natalie and Kevin. When Natalie tried to intervene Sally punched and the two became embrawled in a catfight in the centre of the Street! Sally caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to Natalie's home by flooding it while Natalie and Kevin were on holidays.

Sally managed to find some solace in the arms of mechanic Chris Collins. When he talked of commitment Sally ended the fling. Christmas saw Kevin dramatically dumping Natalie to make up with Sally on Christmas Day. For a brief while the Webster's seemed to succeed in rebuilding their marriage but time had moved on. There was still a part of Sally which could not forgive.

When handsome Greg Kelly became partners with Mike Baldwin's Underworld in 1998, machinist Sally found herself deeply attracted to him. Greg was well aware of Sally's bulging bank account as a result of the money her mother had left. He soon seduced her and started an affair that was to ruin Sally's reputation. Kevin found out and was devastated. He believed that she had done it as a means of revenge but Sally was adamant that she loved Greg more than she had ever loved Kevin. She also believed that the girls would not be affected. Greg and Sally stole private information on Mike's customers and used that to set up their own knicker business.

Greg soon showed his aggressive side when he hit out at Sally. She took it once but when he did again she could not forgive him. Reminded of her terrible father Sally broke off the relationship with Greg but ended up losing all of her inheritance. Greg soon left but would later retrun to cause the break up of Mike Baldwin's marriage when he payed Julia Stone to sleep with Bladwin and then blackmail him.

His most violent act was against Sally however. He held Sally and the girls hostage. As the house became surrounded by armed police Sally and her kids found themselves in extreme danger. After Kelly was arrested and later released Sally finally realised that she was wrong to get involved with Greg because it had affected the girls badly.

In 1999 Sally had to deal with Rosie become a schoolyard bully, making ends meet by selling knickers at the local market and helping her friend Sharon Gaskell through her break up with Ian Bentley. During her time on the market she befriended a nice man called Danny Hargreaves and in time she developed her relationship further. At present they are loving together and own a hardware store together.

The death of Kevin's second wife Alison and his baby son Jake has seen Sally become closer to him again, a fact which hasn't gone unnoticed by Danny. It remains to be seen whether Sally and Danny's relationship will survive for much longer.

David's personal opinion of Sally:

Sally Webster's character has come a long way from a dowdy housewife to a independent mother. There have been times when I admired Sally, particularly in her reaction to Kevin's affair with Natalie. The smack she gave Natalie outside the Corner Shop made the front pages of a number of tabloids! Her catfight with Natalie was a classic episode, one that I would love to see again! Since that I have not had much time for Sally. After seemingly patching things up with Kevin, her affair with Greg Kelly disgusted me and she deserved to lose her inheritance for being so silly and naive. Her attitude towards Martin was hypocritical considering that she had had an affair. I don't care if she had an affair to get back at Kevin, in my view that is just not right. From what I have read on the guestbook there are quite a number of people who cannot stand Sally and I am one of them! It's much better when she is struggling rather than when she is happy.
