According to CNN and Reuters, you can safely view an eclipse through
unexposed film or a Compact Disc. This is NOT true! TheBad Astronomy web

Many news sources call this "The last total eclipse of this century."
There will be one in Europe in 1999.
A Haitian mayor warned people that the eclipse could cause their eyes
to
explode, inducing panic which led to several deaths.
