  • PQ Supplier Ranking Method

Analysis of two methods of ranking potential suppliers. Both methods score the suppliers under various categories but calculate the final score by different means. The analysis revealed the unsuitability of one of the methods through its non-linear properties.

Customer was the purchasing department of the regional health board.

  • Optimisation of Straight-Length Sections for Tower Handrail

Determine maximum length of straight sections for shipment and on-site assembly as a tower handrail. Tangential approximation of a helix was used to provide maximum lengths within fixed parameters.

    Customer was a steel fabricator.

  • Wave Resonance Effects on a Concrete Pier

Stress analysis on a concrete marine pier due to wave action. Differential equations with damping was used to provide the solution.

Customer was a civil engineering contractor.

  • Stability Analysis of a Window Cleaning Cradle

Determine the effect of wind velocity on a suspended window cleaning cradle. Pendulum analysis helped determine the safe working practices.

    Customer was an engineering contractor.

  • Optimisation of Sheet Metal Folding

Determine the exact fold angles required to produce a hopper with reducing cross-section. The geometric solution allowed the hoppers to be folded “right-first-time” as stipulated in the contract.

    Customer was a steel fabricator.
