Through
the ages the Irish ate very well indeed and our traditional
dishes are among the best in the world.

We are justly famous for our oaten, wheaten and soda breads,
for our potato cakes, colcannon and boxty bread, for our
beef, mutton, bacon, hams and Irish whiskey and beer.

Irish butter is excellent, and there is nothing to beat our
fresh salmon and oysters. From early times the Irish enjoyed
edible seaweed, while cockles, mussels and periwinkles were
sold in the heart of the Liberties of Dublin up to a few
years ago. |
